Monsoon Birddog

US Army O-1 over flooded rice paddies

$39.00

Observation aircraft based on civilian trainers such as the Piper Cub, taught the US Army the value of such low and slow airplanes during WWII. The postwar L-19 Birddog was the synthesis of these lessons. Still derived from a civilian aircraft, the Cessna  L-19 was first used during the Korean War. Carrying a pilot, observer and equipped with radios sharing frequencies with infantry and artillery units the Birddogs directed fire on North Korean and Chinese positions. Ten years later, and toting 3.75" smoke rockets the Birddog, now known as the O-1, was again spotting communist targets.

The "Monsoon Birddog" print is available in four variations. The inexpensive 8X12 inch print is a great gift for any aviator. The 16X24 inch print is the perfect size for the office or hangar. The E-Surface photo paper is an outstanding value, while the Fine Art  paper adds texture and depth to the work.
