After discussing with you what you are looking for in a painting, I will draw several thumbnail sketches. These little drawings help me to determine the proportions of the canvas. I often will have a good idea of what the painting will look like before I start this phase. When I have two or three thumbnails we will discus what you like and your input will welcome. I will spend some time on a larger drawing to better decide on the values, The lights and shadows that are the heart of the painting
