Birddog over Vietnam

Korean and Vietnam era artillery spotter and Forward Air Control aircraft

$39.00

The US Army Air Force learned of the value of humble civilian training aircraft used as forward observation platforms during WWII. Responding to a 1949 request for a modern liaison aircraft by the US Army, Cessna mated the wings from its C-170 and tail surfaces from a C-195 to a newly designed fuselage to create the Model 305. Later to be named the Birddog, the L-19 was soon committed to combat in the Korea. A decade later it was re-designated the O-1. Now carrying 2.75 inch smoke rockets under each wing the Birddog was used by the US Army as an artillery spotter in the Viet Nam War. After a squabble with the Army the US Air Force inherited a number of O-1s in addition to the Forward Air Control, (FAC) mission.

The "Birddog over Vietnam" print is available in four variations. The inexpensive 9X12 inch print is a great gift for any aviator. The 18X24 inch print is the perfect size for the office or hangar. The E-Surface photo paper is an outstanding value, while the Fine Art  paper adds texture and depth to the work.
